Contractor Registration Requirements in Iowa | Dentons

All construction contractors and companies who perform any type of construction work in Iowa are required to register with Iowa Workforce Development/Iowa Division of Labor and renew the registration annually. However, certain contractors/companies who earn less than $2,000 a year are exempt from these requirements.

The below contractor registration requirements are in addition to the Iowa Secretary of State’s general requirements for all in-state companies and out-of-state companies doing business in Iowa.

In addition, if a contractor provides any type of plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, sheet metal or hydronic systems services, the contractor is also required to obtain a license with the Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board.
